SHARING THE COST OF ASSIGNMENT PHOTOGRAPHS
In an effort to help my clients maximize their marketing dollars, I have a program that allows multiple clients to share the cost of photographing a project. On the majority of my assignments there are a number of parties who may have a need for the photographs. These other interested parties may be architects, developers, engineers, interior designers, contractors, owners or product manufacturers. By sharing the costs for an assignment with other interested parties, you can obtain photographs for you marketing needs at a signifigantly reduced cost. On each assignment there are a number of costs segments. There's the direct expenses such as assistants, travel, props equipment rental and the like. There is the shooting fee or creative fee which includes the license for the reproduction of the photographs. And finally there are the post production costs such as retouching, CD's, proofs, photographer's computer adjustments, etc. On multiple client assignments I add 25% of the original shooting/creative fee (only) for each additional participant plus the extra CD's/Proofs needed for each participant to the total estimate. Then all participants divide the subsequent total as they wish. All the participants receive cd's/proofs with the same license. The savings can be dramatic! To participate in this cost sharing program, the original client and the additional clients must arrange participation prior to the date of the assignment. After the date of the assignment, additional participants who wish to license the use of the photographs may do so at prevailing stock use fees based on the original client license / agreement.
